Benjamin Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Communication Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
His research is focused on selective exposure in new media settings, especially as it relates to impression management, social comparison, and self-regulation processes. Dr. Johnson is an author of over 20 peer-reviewed publications, which have appeared in high-profile communication journals such as Journal of Communication, Communication Research, Human Communication Research, Media Psychology, and Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication.
At Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Benjamin teaches a number of courses in the bachelor- and master-level media psychology programs. That also includes supervising a variety of student thesis projects each year.
Benjamin earned his PhD from the School of Communication at The Ohio State University in 2014. From 2007 to 2010, he was the Director of the Telecommunications Center at Albany State University, managing the university’s television channel and radio station as well as teaching radio courses. Prior to that, he completed a MA in Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media at Michigan State University and a BS in Communication at the University of Indianapolis.
